Come and play snooker at Walkley Community Centre
We have an excellent snooker room with four full-size tables that have recently been fully reconditioned. We consider them to be the best looked after tables on the hillside. We’ll let you be the judge of that, but the University of Sheffield Pool & Snooker Society voted us Club of the Year 2012/2013. The beautiful old scoreboards and table frames & legs are original items dating back to the early 1900’s. The snooker hall also boasts one of the finest views from a snooker room anywhere. The gable end wall contains a historical stained glass window commemorating the Walkley Lads who fell in the First World War. This, too, has been fully restored recently with the aid of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the Walkley Ways, Walkley Wars History Project.
We field two teams playing in the Sheffield & District Association Snooker League (Business Houses division on Tuesdays, Winter League A Division on Wednesdays). There is an internal social tournament on the last Sunday of each month, guests are welcome to join us for a small fee.
Who can use the snooker tables?
All are welcome to play. We encourage young and old alike to use the snooker hall. Children under 16 should be accompanied by adults and 16-21 year olds will be asked to show proof of age before their membership will be accepted. The stewards are happy to share their knowledge of the game and can provide you with cues, balls and chalk. Abilities vary greatly, we very much welcome all comers to have a go. This is a snooker facility for the people of Walkley, NOT a private snooker room or an exclusive club.
WHEN IS THE SNOOKER HALL OPEN?
Members may use the tables between 9am and 11pm (Sundays 10-11pm)
Membership & Charges
Full Membership is £10 per month paid by direct debit. You then pay only £1 per person per hour, guests signed in with a member pay £3.50.
Members are issued with a set of keys , £20 returnable deposit and have access to our online booking system
Retired Gents Snooker Session
Wednesday morning 9am - 12: Join our regular fellows for social and ball potting. All welcome to call in as a one-off or become a regular. Email snooker@firstreet.org.uk or fill out contact form below for details. £2.50 a session
One off table hire
Non members are asked to fill in the form below and we will make arrangements for you to access a table at a time to suit you -charge £7 per table per hour. This can be arranged only if a steward is available. All equipment is provided
